Carl Ickes December 21, 1958 - December 28, 2023

We're really heartbroken to share some sad news with our Darby Connections family. Our good friend and neighbor, Carl Ickes, was tragically hit by a car in Kentucky while visiting his relatives. This loss hits us hard, especially for Erica and me – Carl lived just four houses down from us by the river.
We first met Carl over twelve years ago when we moved into the neighborhood. He wasn't just a neighbor; he became a great buddy. Erica and Carl even shared a birthday, which was something special between them.
Carl was the kind of guy who really knew how to live life to the fullest. He was always up for anything with Darby Connections – whether it was playing Euchre, joining us for Sunday Breakfast, getting in a game of Pickleball, Bowling, Golfing, catching a concert or a game, or just about anything else. And let's not forget his love for boating – many of us have fond memories of times out on the water with him.
Outside of our group, Carl was just as active. He lost his wife, Gay, a few years back, which was another big blow. They have two amazing daughters, Shelby and Allison, who you might have seen at some of our events. Our hearts are just aching for them.
It's been a rough year for us, with Carl being the third member we've lost. First Steve, then Ron, and now Carl. They say these things happen in threes, and we're all hoping this is the last of it. It's a reminder to all of us to make the most of every moment with the people we care about.
